South Korea imported 33,100 tons of wine in 2014, up 1.6 percent from a year ago, customs data showed Tuesday.

The country's imported wine market had a single-digit growth rate last year, compared with double-digit growth in previous years. In 2013, the growth rate stood at 15.9 percent.

"The growth rate slowed down last year amid sluggish domestic consumption," said an official at Keumyang International, a wine importer.

Chilean wine accounted for 26.2 percent or 8,685 tons of the total wine imports, followed by Spanish wine (6,887 tons or 20.8 percent), Italian wine (4,983 tons or 15.1 percent), French wine (4,353 tons or 13.2 percent), U.S. wine (3,423 tons or 10.3 percent), South African wine (1,767 tons or 5.3 percent), Australian wine (1,287 tons or 3.9 percent), Argentine wine (708 tons or 2.1 percent) and New Zealand wine (201 tons or 0.6 percent), according to the data compiled by the Korea Customs Service (KCS).
