Amazon, the internet shopping pioneer, is reportedly preparing to jump into uncharted waters- food business. Also, the company will make a broad push into markets such as baby food and household items.

Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that Amazon is set to roll out new lines of the company's private-label brands starting from perishable foods. The Wall Street Journal said that the first of Amazon's private-label brands are likely to appear at the end of May or Early in June.

The labels which Amazon is preparing for are Happy Belly – offering every food products from cooking oil to tea, Wickedly Prime – snacks, Presto – household goods such as detergents, and Mama Bear – baby-related products such as baby food. A person who is familiar with the company told Wall Street Journal that the new services will only be available to Amazon Prime users who pay 99 US dollars a year as a membership fee.

Amazon moving into perishable product market is considered as a bold move. It is much harder to sell products with expiration dates. But some experts of the industry see that Amazon would do very fine. Based on their enormous big data on consumer habits and preferences, the online shopping giant can sell products accordingly by trends and needs of the consumers.

However, Amazon is yet to make comments on their new venture. While many consumers are eyeing on how Amazon will price their products, no information was released regarding the rising questions.
