Bones found in the wreck of the Sewol ferry, which sank three years ago with the loss of 304 people, was confirmed by officials to belong to a female high school student who was among nine people listed as missing in the disaster.

The remains, found on Tuesday, were to be identified through DNA tests that would take a month. Luckily, experts were able to cut the time short as the teeth matched the dental records of Heo Da-youn from Danwon High School in Ansan.

Heo is the second victim found in the Sewol wreckage. On Wednesday, officials confirmed a bone fragment found at the sinking site to be of Ko Chang-seok, a Danwon teacher who went missing when the ill-fated ferry sank off the southwestern island of Jindo.

The overloaded Sewol was carrying 476 people, including 325 students from Ansan, when it sank. Only 75 students survived. A total of 297 bodies have been recovered. The hull was raised from the bottom of the sea and put into a dry dock in the port of Mokpo last month.
