SEOUL -- Samsung Electronics will establish a certification center in China for "HDR10+", a new video processing technology standard, as part of efforts to strengthen its alliance with foreign partners such as Warner Brothers, Qualcomm and TCL.

HDR (high-dynamic-range) is used to provide vivid colors and accurate images. Samsung showcased HDR10+ in July last year. While previous HDR video technology processes images on the basis of a whole volume, Samsung's royalty-free and open standard technology adjusts brightness levels on a scene-by-scene or frame-by-frame basis to provide more accurate and vibrant colors optimized to every scene.

Samsung said the certification center in China would open this month in cooperation with the Testing and Inspection Station for Radio and TV (TIRT), a national testing and inspection center for Chinese consumer electronics. The center would help Chinese partners receive the HDR10+ certification logo.

"With HDR emerging as one of the most important technologies for ultra-high picture quality, Samsung’s HDR10+ format is gaining recognition," Samsung's visual display division executive vice president Lee Hyo-gun was quoted as saying.

Samsung has forged an alliance with 45 industry partners to accelerate the expansion of its HDR10+ ecosystem. The HDR10+ alliance includes filmmakers -- Warner Brothers and 20th Century Fox -- and technology companies such as Qualcomm and IMAX as well as consumer electronics companies, TCL and Hisense.

"As a result, we’re witnessing the establishment of a strong ecosystem of HDR10+ offerings, with the power to revolutionize home entertainment," the company said.
