SEOUL -- The world's first rollable organic light emitting diode (OLED) TV, developed by LG Electronics, will be available later this year following the release of 8K resolution OLED TVs.

LG shocked the global TV industry by showcasing "LG Signature OLED TV R", a 65-inch OLED TV with a rollable display that can appear and disappear from a base unit, at a consumer electronics show in Las Vegas in January this year. It has been hailed by IT experts and tech-savvy consumers as a milestone in the TV market.

The initial target of rollable TVs would be consumers in South Korea, the United States and Europe, LG said in March, adding the price would be decided through negotiations with major retailers.

While targeting the super-premium OLED TV market with 8K resolution OLED TVs and rollable TVs, LG aims to up its global share in the OLED TV market. OLED TVs have become the mainstream in the global TV market, Lee said, predicting about 3.6 million OLED TVs would be sold globally in 2019.
