Kakao to release cosmetics products designed by girl band TWICE members

SEOUL -- Kakao, the operator of South Korea's top messenger app, will release character products designed by members of K-pop girl band TWICE to capture the hearts of young consumers who favor colorful and unique designs.

Kakao IX, the character franchise wing of Kakao, said in a statement on Monday that it would release 23 "Kakao Friends TWICE Edition" products including cosmetics on October 19. The products were specially planned and designed by TWICE members.

"Thanks to TWICE members' unique opinions and sincere participation based on their love for Kakao Friends, we were able to come up with the results of best collaboration," a Kakao IX official was quoted as saying.

Kakao Friends is a lineup of character items inspired by animation characters related to Kakao Talk. Kakao Friends characters are favored by trend-savvy young consumers from Asian countries because of cute designs with unique and interesting background stories.

Top artists collaborating with popular character franchises are not rare in the K-pop scene. In January last year, BTS teamed up with LINE Friends, a character franchise of South Korea's top web portal operator Naver, to release "BT21", a product lineup designed using characterized BTS members.

BTS also collaborated with LINE Friends in October last year to release a collection of 47 cosmetics products designed using characterized avatars personally created by BTS members.
