SEOUL -- Singer-actress IU has indefinitely postponed all activities related to the release of her new album to express condolences on the sudden death of her close friend, Sulli, who apparently killed herself after being plagued by hate comments.

"The pre-release event for IU's fifth mini-album 'Love Poem' was suspended and we plan to announce a new schedule later," Kakao M, the 26-year-old's agency, said in a statement. IU was to roll out a series of pre-releases for her new album, set for release on October 18.

IU and Sulli had a long history of friendship that began in 2011 when the two artists appeared in a weekly TV music show as main hosts. IU has personally written lyrics for her single "Peach", a song about Sulli, in 2012, saying it was written from the perspective of a male thinking about Sulli.

After the death of Sulli, Peach has reappeared on the top 50 of real-time song charts of major music services. The song is currently on the No. 4 spot on Bugs, a popular South Korean online music service.

Choi Jin-ri, known by her stage name Sulli, was found dead Monday at the second story of her house in Seongnam, a southern satellite city of Seoul. No last note was found, but police raised suspicions about suicide, pointing to a self-written note of usual feelings.
