SEOUL -- KT, a major telecom company in South Korea, will use new technologies such as artificial intelligence, 5G and big data to digitize a restaurant chain that has expanded its business at home and abroad with garlic-themed Italian dishes.

KT said it has signed a business agreement with MFG Korea to develop an integrated dining platform and develop additional service for the digital innovation of Mad for Garlic. AI, 5G and big data will be introduced in the process of searching, waiting, booking, ordering, payment, serving and delivery.

GiGA Genie, an AI voice assistant speaker launched by KI, will be used to search for and book food and apply it on a trial basis at the outlets of Mad for Garlic, a restaurant chain owned by MFG Korea, which has developed unique service restaurant concepts and owns franchised brands in South Korea and other countries.

"We will present a digital innovation model for the restaurant industry by combining KT's artificial intelligence and big data technologies," said MFG Korea CEO Yoon Na-ra. The deal with KT came days after Yoon's company agreed to introduce Paycoin (PCI) that provides virtual asset payment services based on blockchain.

As a subsidiary of Danal, a mobile business solution provider, Paycoin is the first virtual asset commercialized as payment in South Korea. By reducing intermediaries through blockchain, Paycoin provides lower transaction fees and faster settlement cycles to merchants as well as a safe and convenient payment environment to users.
