SEOUL -- CJ Logistics, a major South Korean parcel delivery service operator, has adopted an automated parcel sorting system that separates small parcels from larger ones for fast parcel sorting instead of human eyes.

Deliverymen have picked up and carried parcels to logistics centers for manual sorting. They should go through another sorting process at hub terminals before being loaded onto trucks and sent to regional logistics centers. CJ Logistics processed about 4.8 million parcels daily last year, but its workload became heavier this year due to a sharp increase in online shopping deliveries.

The logistics company said in a statement on September 7 that it has adopted a "multipoint" system to automatically sort small parcels and send them to different sorting floors. Sorted parcels do not have to go to hub terminals. Small parcels took up 87.3 percent of the total.

The logistics company has pushed for the digital transformation of its traditional parcel sorting and delivery system starting with the adoption of wheel sorters and machine-driven sorters at sub logistics centers. The new system will enhance the productivity and sorting accuracy of logistics centers, CJ Logistics said, adding it received positive feedback from deliverymen.
