SEOUL -- Samsung C&T, a key unit of South Korea's Samsung Group, has developed a special paint that will change its color in real-time when it comes in contact with harmful chemical substances.

Samsung C&T said in a statement on September 10 that its construction department has developed a harmful chemical-detecting paint that can be used at facilities such as chemical factories and research centers to prevent leaks and casualties.

According to Samsung, the special paint will immediately change its color when it detects chemical leaks. CCTV can be used to monitor the area where the special paint is applied and alarm supervisors when a change in color is detected.

"The paint is very effective at managing dangerous areas such as facilities that use chemical products in large quantities or those with limited human accessibility," Samsung C&T said, adding the special paint was created using technology that was domestically developed.

Samsung C&T also said that the company has applied for a patent on a paint that is capable of detecting chemical leaks using electrical signals.
