SEOUL -- Rusal, the metal business of En+ Group, an Anglo-Russian energy and metals company, has forged its partnership with Henan Mingtai Aluminum, an aluminum processing company based in China, to deliver low-carbon aluminum products in response to the world's growing market demand.
En+ Group said in a statement that Rusal's strategic supply of low-carbon primary aluminum under ALLOW brand would be delivered to Mingtai's plants, including a new rolling mill in South Korea's southern industrial port city of Gwangyang. The Gwangyang plant is to commence operations in the third quarter of 2021.
En+ Group, a top low-carbon aluminum producer in the world, said that ALLOW would enable Mingtai Aluminum to offer products with a carbon footprint several times lower than the industry average. Mingtai and Rusal would work together as part of their collaboration in research and development to produce innovative alloys and develop new mold dimensions.
"This clearly indicates China and South Korea's forward-looking drive towards carbon neutrality," said Lord Barker, executive chairman of En+ Group's board of directors. "This is a transformational business opportunity generated by the growing market demand for more sustainable aluminum products."
South Korea has presented a goal to commercialize a 300MW hydrogen gas turbine by 2040 as part of efforts to push for energy conversion and carbon neutrality in 2050. Carbon neutrality refers to achieving net-zero carbon dioxide emissions by balancing carbon dioxide emissions with removal or simply eliminating carbon dioxide emissions altogether.
