SEOUL -- Bentley Systems, a U.S. software developer, partnered with South Korea's Hyundai Engineering to develop an artificial intelligence-based automated design system for steel and concrete structures. The partnership will accelerate Hyundai Engineering's digital transformation.

Hyundai Engineering said in a statement that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bentley Systems to cooperate in the system development of an AI-based automated construction structure design technology.

The AI-based design system will be based on Hyundai Engineering's automated steel and concrete structure design system developed in 2020. Hyundai Engineering and Bentley will develop an advanced system for optimized structure design and building using AI to reduce time and costs.

"We predict that our company will achieve a greater success in the automated design sector through cooperation with the world-class engineering software company Bentley Systems," Hyundai Engineering director Han Dae-hee was quoted as saying. He said his company would establish digital platforms in various sectors using an AI-based automated design system.

Hyundai Engineering has pushed for digital transformation into a next-generation construction company to expand its business scope and gain competitiveness. Hyundai Engineering and South Korea's top telecom company KT joined hands in January 2021 to establish a smart city network in Osan some 45 kilometers (27.9 miles) south of Seoul.
