SEOUL -- Kakao Mobility, the mobility service wing of South Korea's web service giant Kakao, has launched a digital gift ticket service for trains. The service targets customers who wish to make train ticket reservations for their family members.
Previously, a third-party train ticket reservation app only allowed users to reserve tickets for themselves due to security issues regarding the handling of digital personal information. Old people mainly visited train stations to buy tickets because they found it hard to make reservations with smartphones.
Kakao Mobility said in a statement on May 21 that the company has added a digital gift ticket feature to Kakao T. A digital ticket will be sent to a passenger via Kakao Talk, a popular smartphone messenger app. "This service has a significant meaning as it resolved poor user experiences and provides technical convenience through the Kakao T platform," Shin Dong-min, who heads Kakao T's MaaS platform team, was quoted as saying.
