​Shinsegae Department Store forges partnership with online music service Genie

SEOUL -- Shinsegae Department Store, affiliated with South Korea's retail group Shinsegae, partnered with popular online music service operator Genie Music to collaborate and create synergy in marketing. The two companies will open exclusive stores on each other's smartphone apps.

Shinsegae Department Store said in a statement on June 8 that the company has signed a memorandum of understanding with Genie Music to meld music into online shopping. Shinsegae and Genie will roll out marketing promotions at the end of July.

Through Shinsegae's smartphone shopping app, Genie will provide monthly suggestions of songs and playlists. A digital magazine including video content will be published. Genie's app will offer customers a selection of lifestyle products that suit musical themes. Shinsegae's shopping rewards will be given to Genie users.

For offline collaborations, Shinsegae will hold concerts regularly at its selected department stores. Shinsegae will also support incubating projects for promising indie artists.
