SEOUL -- Users of Zepeto, a metaverse platform operated by South Korea's web service company Naver, will be able to adorn their online avatars with apparel and accessories from "Hotel Del Luna," a popular 2019 K-drama starring singer-actress IU and actor Yeo Jin-goo. They can recreate famous scenes at virtual spaces.

Metaverse is an online space where users can interact with each other using virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) technologies. Metaverse services attracted attention in South Korea in 2020 when people were grounded due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Various metaverse platforms were released to offer online school classrooms, social spaces, and virtual sports rooms where young students can compete against other schools.

Studio Dragon, the drama production wing of South Korea's entertainment company CJ ENM, said in a statement on July 23 that some 35 metaverse items will be released through Zepeto at 04:00 p.m. (0700 GMT) to help users recreate famous scenes from the popular fantasy drama. Along with fashionable items, popular spots from Hotel Del Luna will be created.

Hotel Del Luna is a fantasy drama depicting a story about a ghost hotel for lost souls. IU played the role of the hotel's owner and Yeo played the role of the hotel's manager. The drama was released globally through Netflix, the world's most popular over-the-top service operator.
