Based on a multilateral video conference platform, the cloud-based solution can be used not only for telemedicine but also for large-scale conferences, LG Electronics said, adding the solution can be easily linked to systems built by individual hospitals, such as electronic health records (EMRs).
LG Electronics has developed the solution through technical collaboration with ezCaretech, an electronic health record (EHR) provider spun off from Seoul National University Hospital. An electronic health record (EHR) is the systematized collection of electronically stored health information in a digital format that can be shared across different health care settings.
"We will continue to lead the commercial display market by providing integrated solutions that are optimized for installation space and purpose from hardware to software," LG Electronics' ID business head Baek Ki-moon said in a statement on August 25.
LG Electronics would speed up efforts to tap into the hospital TV market by supplying integrated solutions based on differentiated software and display capabilities. The company has a lineup of hospital TVs that provide various functions, allowing hospitals to create customized home screens. Because all TVs are connected to the same network, operators can change content with ease or control TVs installed in certain spaces.
Telemedicine is a service via electronic information and telecom technologies that allow long-distance contact, care, advice and monitoring. Big hospitals in South Korea showed a positive response, but some doctors still think telehealth could lead to the collapse of small and medium-sized hospitals. Since South Korea introduced its first pilot program for telehealth in 2000, any attempt to revise a related medical law has failed to win parliamentary approval mainly due to strong opposition from doctors.
