SEOUL -- South Korea's web service Kakao has partnered with Moca System, a domestic digital card service company, to create office environments that do not need employee identification cards or any other kinds of plastic cards for authentication. Kakao will upgrade the areas of service and the capability of its existing digital card wallet service.

Kakao released a digital wallet service in December 2020 to help users verify their identity and carry digitally issued national certificates using smartphones. It allows users to carry 495 kinds of certificates issued by the Human Resources Development Service of Korea in an authenticated digital document form.

Kakao said in a statement on November 25 that the company will cooperate with Moca System to release an all-in-one employee verification service for corporate members in the first half of 2022. Corporates can have employees replace their plastic verification cards with Kakao's digital wallet service. Employees can verify their identity when entering a building or using an office appliance. The digital wallet service will also offer a group chatting service that can be used for sending notifications to employees.

"Users will be able to store digital access cards in their Kakao digital wallet and use them by simply bringing their phones close to a card reader," Kakao said in a statement. "The digital cards will also help reduce carbon emissions in the long run."
