The paint on color-coated steel sheets consists of resin, solvent and pigment. The solvent used to control the viscosity of the paint generates carbon dioxide while being heated and dried. Dongkuk has developed a solvent-free color steel product called "Luxteel Biomass Uniglass."
Dongkuk said that ultraviolet coating technology was applied together to reduce carbon emissions by more than 80 percent compared to the existing color steel sheet method. The solvent-free product can be applied to home appliances, elevators and walls.

"We will focus on developing eco-friendly colored steel sheets through low-carbon processes and product research," an unnamed Dongkuk official said in a statement on March 7. Dongkuk has made sustained investments in colored steel to increase its market share.
