SK hynix and U.S. subsidiary produce new SSD using Intel's technology

SEOUL -- SK hynix has unveiled a new enterprise solid-state drive (SSD) that uses integrated circuit assemblies to store data persistently, using flash memory. It was the first collaborative product with Solidigm, a U.S. subsidiary launched in December 2021 after the South Korean company acquired Intel's NAND and SSD business.

Through collaboration with Solidigm, SK hynix said it would enhance its NAND flash business competitiveness. NAND flash memory is a type of non-volatile storage technology that does not require power to retain data. "SK hynix and Solidigm will continue to partner in order to optimize both companies’ operations to create greater synergies," SK hynix chief marketing officer Noh Jong-won said in a statement.

The new SSD called "P5530" combined SK hynix's 128-layer 4D NAND flash with Solidigm's SSD controller and firmware supporting a PCIe Gen 4 interface. A controller assists the mainboard and operating system of a computing system to recognize and utilize NAND flash memory as a storage device. PCIe is a high-speed input and output series interface used in the mainboard of digital devices.
