SEOUL -- Voice Caddie, a golf technology company that produces GPS rangefinder products, will provide an ultra-precision location information service by combining measurement and communication technologies from LG Uplus, a mobile carrier in South Korea.

Voice Caddie (VC) will apply LG Uplus solutions to its real-time auto pin location (APL) and digital yardage book to improve the quality of golf location information devices. Along with the real-time location of the hole cup that frequently changes during golf games, the actual distance between the pin and the golfer can be accurately checked at the level of centimeters.

LG Uplus (LGU+) will provide a real-time kinematic (RTK) solution and LTE Cat M1 or eMTC (enhanced machine type communication), a type of low power wide area network radio technology standard to enable a wide range of cellular devices and services. LTE Cat M1 is optimized for monitoring mobile objects that frequently transmit data

Kinematics is a subfield of physics that describes the motion of points, bodies, and systems of bodies without considering the forces that cause them to move. Real-time kinematic positioning (RTK) is the application of surveying to correct for common errors in current satellite navigation systems.

Starting in May, the two companies will apply an ultra-precision location information service gradually to 256 golf courses nationwide. "I am happy to cooperate with LG Uplus, which has ultra-precise measurement technology that boasts distance accuracy of up to 1cm," VC CEO Kim Jun-o said in a statement on April 12. Kim called for further cooperation with LGU+ in launching autonomous robot carts using precision GPS and terrain information technology.
