According to data cited by Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO), the number of home appliance items increased from 15 in 2000 to 22 in 2021. More high-capacity TVs and refrigerators led to an increase in electricity consumption.
KEPCO's big data analysis will be combined with the autonomous solution capabilities of LS Electric, a domestic power system and automation company, to develop the smart monitoring service. Artificial intelligence and data analysis techniques will be incorporated to inform users in case of power overload.
A test project will be carried out in old apartments with high risks of power outages because of outdated power facilities. Through cooperation with LS Electric, a new service model to prevent power outages will be developed.
"By combining KEPCO's big data analysis technology with LS Electric's smart energy technology capabilities, we will contribute to the stable supply of power and play a key role in popularizing the development of new digital services," KEPCO's digital transformation head Song Ho-seung said in a statement on August 19.
