SEOUL -- South Korea's top telecom company KT lowered the price of its artificial intelligence-based call assistant service by a quarter while maintaining core functions to gain more users. The operators of one-man stores and small-sized companies can effectively manage reservations and other customer-related inquiries.

Unlike an automatic response system (ARS) which allows callers to access information through a response system of pre-recorded messages, the AI call assistant service can engage in a natural spoken conversation. According to a 2018 survey of 2,022 Americans aged 18 and above, conducted by market research firm the Harris Poll, 66 percent of respondents favored talking with an AI call assistant over ARS.

In October 2021, KT released an AI-assistant service that can engage in a natural spoken conversation including greeting customers and providing parking guidance. The smart service could deal with customers anytime for 20,000 won ($14.65) per month. The price was lowered to 5,000 won per month. A free service will be given to business operators in the first month of their subscription.
