SEOUL -- KG Steel, a steel company in South Korea, has released a new electro-galvanized iron sheet with anti-fingerprint treatment. An antibacterial agent containing silver ions was added for antibacterial properties that can be maintained for more than 10 years in the domestic climate.

KG Steel said that its new anti-fingerprint steel plate brand-maned "BioCOT" showed excellent antibacterial and anti-fungal performances verified with customers for mass production in the fourth quarter of 2022. Anti-fingerprint stainless technology coats a special coating film protection layer on the stainless steel plate's surface to improve its hardness and corrosion resistance. Anti-fingerprint steel plates are used for premium home appliances, auto parts, and high-end building materials.

For antibacterial properties, KG Steel used a non-toxic inorganic agent containing silver ions and silver nanoparticles that can cause damage to the bacterial cell membrane and penetrate into the cell to destroy bacteria.

A prolonged COVID-19 pandemic has called for enhanced hygiene. The fear of infection prompted the fast adoption of antibacterial materials such as gloves. Antibacterial films and similar materials were widely used to cover elevator buttons, door handles and other objects that many random people frequently touch.
