SEOUL -- LG Uplus (LGU+), a mobile carrier in South Korea, rolled out a smart video conferencing platform that can remove ambient noise while conducting important meetings. Voice conversations won't be interrupted even when the connected network becomes unstable.

The solution called "MeetU" can operate on PCs, mobile devices and tablets without installing separate programs. It provides rights to speak for users who can leave notes by attaching sticky notes on the whiteboard displayed on the screen and use a laser pen to point at important phrases.

"We hope users to have innovative experiences through MeetU that enable them to closely communicate with others in various fields such as work and education," LGU+'s corporate service development lab head Jeon Young-seo said in a statement on November 7. The company will adopt the smart solution for its metaverse-based platform that actualized the work environment in 2023.

Non-face-to-face platforms have garnered attention in South Korea amid the COVID-19 pandemic to avoid visiting crowded places or enclosed spaces. In December 2021, Hyundai Wia, a parts-making unit of South Korea's Hyundai auto group, opened a metaverse-based showroom to actualize virtual business meetings and allow visitors to experience the digital space that displays virtual replicas of auto parts and machine tools.
