The five-member band stepped into the spotlight as soon as it debuted on July 2022 and won various awards including the "Rookie Artist Award" and "Best Digital Song" at the "2023 Golden Disk Awards," an annual Asian music awards event hosted by South Korea's media conglomerate JoongAng Group.
Billboard, a prominent American music magazine also well-known for its weekly and monthly popular song charts, tweeted on January 18: "Ditto" debuts at No. 96 on this week's Hot100. It earns the group its first career entry on the chart." Hot100 is a weekly song chart that ranks top 100 popular songs.
Previously, South Korean artists including rapper Psy, girl band BLACKPINK, and BTS had their songs enter the Hot100 chart. NewJeans is the seventh K-pop artist to enter the global song chart. The super rookie band released new single "OMG" on January 2 and garnered more than 6.9 million view counts on YouTube in less than a day.
