NCSoft's operating profit jumps 49% to $442 million in 2022, driven by soaring mobile game sales

SEOUL -- South Korea's top game publisher NCSoft Corp. enjoyed an operating profit of 559 billion won ($442 million) last year, up 49 percent from a year earlier on the back of soaring sales of mobile games, the company said February 9.
 
NCSoft's sales rose 11.4 percent year-on-year to 2.57 trillion won in 2022 from 2021. Sales of mobile games surged 20 percent to 1.93 trillion won, accounting for 76.8 percent of the company's total sales. Its net profit jumped 14.4 percent to 452.6 billion won.
 
A company official said "Lineage W," an updated version of its long-running multiplayer online role-playing game, drew a rising number of global users one year after its debut. "Lineage M" also maintained a steady traffic of visitors seven years after its release.
 
"Lineage W" led the company's mobile sales by logging 970.8 billion won, followed by "Lineage M" with 516.5 billion won and "Lineage 2M" with 391.5 billion won. "Blade & Soul 2" garnered 55.6 billion won.
 
Sales of PC games logged 390.4 billion, representing 15.2 percent of the total sales. "Guild Wars 2" recorded sales of 295 billion won, followed by "Lineage 2" with 294 billion won, "Lineage" with 107 billion won, "Aion" with 68 billion won and "Blade & Soul" with 26 billion won.
 
The company said that 63.2 percent of its sales took place in South Korea, followed by Asia with 24.3 percent and North America and Europe with 6.4 percent.
 
NCSoft plans to release a PC and console-based new game, "Throne and Liberty," throughout the world in the first half of this year. It said details of the game will be made public soon.
