SEOUL -- An artificial intelligence-based image analysis solution jointly developed by South Korea's medical AI-based solution developer Lunit and Belgium-based medical imaging company Agfa HealthCare will be used at Dubai's public health center to boost human radiologists' work performance. Lunit aims to make a foray into other regions in the Middle East.

According to market research firm Data Bridge Market Research, the medical imaging market in the Middle East is expected to grow to $30.85 billion in 2029 from $20.1 billion in 2021. AI-based medical image solutions compare computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images of patients with images taken from healthy people. When an AI-based solution finds an irregularity, human doctors are notified for an eye check. AI-based medical image analysis solutions can reduce the time taken for a disease diagnosis.

Since 2021, the South Korean AI medical solution developer has worked with the Belgium-based multinational company, which expanded its business scope from photographic film to medical imaging. The two companies cooperated to create "Agfa HealthCare Enterprise Imaging," an integrated imaging platform based on Lunit's breast cancer diagnosis solution called "Lunit INSIGHT MMG."

Lunit said in a statement that Agfa HealthCare Enterprise Imaging was distributed to Dubai Academic Health Corporation (DAHC) Dubai Hospital established by Dubai's municipal body. "We are thrilled to team with Agfa HealthCare to introduce our AI solution and help improve the delivery of patient care at DAHC," Lunit CEO Brandon Suh said in a statement on February 9.

"The Breast AI Analysis package provides powerful tools for cancer risk-based triage, along with natively embedded CAD (computer-aided detection) AI visualizations and advanced 2D/3D mammography tools powered by Lunit INSIGHT MMG," said Dr. Anjum Ahmed, Agfa HealthCare's AI innovation division director.

Using software robots, Lunit INSIGHT MMG can analyze X-rays and medical images with 96 percent accuracy. However, it is only capable of identifying two-dimensional images with suspicious lesions. Lunit has also showcased "Lunit INSIGHT DBT," which accelerates reading by handpicking the three-dimensional slice images.
