SEOUL -- BTS's lead rapper Suga has donated 100 million won ($75,642) to a London-based nonprofit organization to help child earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria. Suga's donation will be used to purchase emergency relief items such as blankets, mattresses, and school supplies. The 30-year-old will go on a solo world tour, starting with the first concert in Belmont Park, New York on April 26.

Save the Children said in a statement that Suga made the donation on his birthday, March 9. The tremendous earthquake took place on February 6. The South Korean government has promised to offer $5 million in emergency humanitarian assistance to Turkey to handle the natural disaster.

Suga is also known as a philanthropist due to his various donation activities. In 2022, the artist donated 100 million won to a Seoul-based disaster relief association to help residents on South Korea's eastern coast recover from a wildfire. A year earlier, he donated 100 million won to a hospital in the southern industrial city of Daegu for children suffering from cancer.

The seven-member band's lead rapper would be the first BTS member to launch a solo world tour. Starting in April 2023, he will cover six countries -- the United States, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, and Japan. Suga has garnered attention for showcasing his outstanding rapping skills. He collaborated with female artist IU to roll out "Eight," a dance song with some 170 million views on YouTube.
