SEOUL -- K-pop girl band aespa will perform at Tokyo Dome, an indoor stadium regarded as the "dream stage" among Japanese artists. The four-member band will participate in SM Town Live, a concert showcasing artists of South Korea's entertainment powerhouse SM Entertainment.

The group released many hit songs such as "Black Mamba" and "Next Level." In June 2020, aespa signed a contract with Warner Music, an American entertainment and record label conglomerate, to make a foray into the United States market. In August 2023, the band attracted about 94,000 audience through a two-day concert at Tokyo Dome with a total capacity of around 50,000.

SM Entertainment said in a statement that aespa will take part in SM Town Live, a two-day event set to start on February 21, 2024. Since 2008, the global K-pop concert has taken place in various cities including New York, Los Angeles, France, and Beijing. In 2022, about 150,000 fans participated in the SM concert at Tokyo Dome. Along with aespa, other SM artists will present their performances including Riize, a seven-member boy band, and NCT 127, a unit band of K-pop boy group NCT.

aespa is a combination of "æ," which expresses "Avatar X Experience," and "aspect," which means double-sided. Group members gained popularity for special computer-generated avatar members. Avatar characters are involved in independent activities, such as producing their own online content so that real-world members can interact with fans in more diverse ways.

A YouTube video showing a virtual entrance ceremony at Soonchunhyang University, conducted held in collaboration with aespa in February 2022 garnered attention on YouTube, surpassing 11 million views. The performers welcomed new students through their unique performance in the video where various facilities, including the school's gate and street, were brought to life. The girl band released its fourth mini album "Drama" in November 2023.
